Soft Summer color palette at a glance
The Soft Summer color palette is one of the most searched color palettes for a reason: these muted, smoky shades are elegant and easy to combine. In the Closie app the palette lists taupe, powder pink, cool grey, sea green, lavender, plum, off-white and mocha for near the face, plus graphite, navy, khaki and beige further away.
“Soft” doesn’t mean sad. It means low chroma: every color has a little grey in it, so nothing shouts. That is what lets your face, not your clothes, be the focal point.
Soft Summer vs Muted Summer: same season
You may see this season called Muted Summer or Summer Soft. The Closie app calls it Soft Summer. All of these describe the same muted, cool-leaning type.
White, black and grey for a Soft Summer
- White: soft off-white, slightly greyed. Snow white looks harsh, cream looks yellow.
- Black: graphite or charcoal near the face, black only in shoes and bags.
- Grey: your most versatile neutral — cool mid-grey and heather grey.
- Brown: taupe and mocha; skip golden camel and bright chocolate near the face.
How to wear colors outside your palette
Soft Summers often own a lot of black. Keep it on the lower half — black jeans, black boots — and put taupe, powder pink or sea green on top. A bright fuchsia sweater becomes wearable under a grey coat with only a little showing. The trick is to keep one soft, smoky color between strong colors and your face.
Hair color for Soft Summer
Ash blonde, beige blonde, mushroom brown and soft ash brown sit naturally with your coloring. Very bright platinum or very dark brown add more contrast than you have, and gold or copper reflections fight your cool skin. Grey hair tends to look elegant with a Soft Summer palette.
Fabrics and patterns
Matte and soft-sheen fabrics: brushed wool, cashmere, suede, washed silk, linen. Patterns should be blended and tonal — heathered knits, watercolor florals, soft plaids in grey and rose. Strong black-and-white graphics overpower you.
Am I a Soft Summer? Four quick checks
- Your hair, eyes and skin are all medium-light and blend together.
- Dusty rose and taupe look better on you than bright pink and beige.
- Silver looks slightly fresher than gold.
- Black and stark white feel like “too much” near your face.
In the logic behind the free color analysis quiz, a cool undertone with low contrast leads to Soft Summer. With a neutral undertone the eyes decide: cool grey or blue eyes point to Soft Summer, warm hazel or brown to Soft Autumn.
Five color pairings that work
- Taupe + powder pink + off-white — soft and polished.
- Navy + sea green + grey — calm everyday outfit.
- Plum + graphite + lavender — a quiet evening look.
- Mocha + beige + powder pink — warmth without yellow.
- Cool grey + plum — a strong but still muted combination.
Common mistakes
- Using black as the main neutral near the face.
- Choosing very saturated fashion colors (neon, fuchsia, cobalt) as tops.
- Golden highlights and warm bronzer that fight a cool undertone.
- High-contrast prints that hide your face.

How to check if you are a Soft Summer at home
You don’t need professional drapes for a first check. Stand facing a window in daylight, without makeup, hair pulled back, wearing something neutral. Hold each pair of fabrics (tops, scarves, towels) under your chin one after the other and look at your skin, not at the fabric: are shadows softer, is the skin more even, do your eyes look clearer?
- Taupe vs black: taupe should keep the focus on your face.
- Dusty rose vs fuchsia: dusty rose should look natural; fuchsia loud.
- Silver vs gold: silver should look a little fresher.
If your answers keep pointing the same way, you have a strong hint. If they are mixed, take the free color analysis quiz — it combines your hair, eye and skin answers with three undertone tests, the same way the Closie app does.
