Winter Colors 2026/2027: The Season’s Shades and How to Match Them to Your Color Palette
In winter, color does more work than cut. Your coat, scarf and sweater are on show all day, and grey winter light is honest about whether a shade near your face suits you. So before you buy anything in this season’s colors, it helps to know two things: which colors are in for winter 2026/2027, and which of them actually work for you.

The short answer: the winter 2026/2027 colors are chocolate brown, caramel, bottle green, burgundy and plum, and greys from pale ash to charcoal. Warm shades suit the Autumn and Spring color seasons best, cool ones suit Winter and Summer. If a trend color isn’t yours, wear it away from your face, on trousers, boots or a bag, and keep your own palette near your face.

Winter colors 2026/2027
Autumn-winter 2026/2027 is about deep, earthy shades and classic neutrals. That’s good news, because most of them are easy to mix with what’s already in your wardrobe.
- Chocolate brown: the color of the season, from coats and knits to boots and bags
- Caramel and toffee: a warmer, softer alternative to beige
- Bottle green: the strongest evening and holiday color
- Burgundy and plum: in knitwear, velvet and on nails
- Greys: from pale ash to charcoal, including head-to-toe grey

Alongside them, the winter classics stay: navy, ivory, black and camel. They’re the easiest base for a winter wardrobe, with trend colors added one piece at a time.
Why one color suits you and another doesn’t
Three qualities of a color decide whether it brightens your face or drains it: temperature (warm or cool), value (light or dark) and chroma (clear or muted). Your natural coloring, your skin, hair and eyes, has the same qualities. When a color matches them, your face looks fresh. When it clashes, you see shadows under the eyes, a greyish complexion or a tired look.
The simplest check is by a window, in daylight, without makeup. Hold two fabrics of the same color family to your face, for example caramel and a cool grey, and look at your skin, not the fabric. The one that makes your skin look more even is closer to your palette.
Winter colors for every color season
Winter: cool and high contrast
Winters have a cool undertone and clear contrast between hair and skin. From this season’s colors they wear bottle green, cool cherry burgundy, plum, charcoal and black best, and snow white near the face looks great on them. Caramel and toffee near the face can dull a Winter, so move warm browns to boots, belts or trousers.
Your sub-season might be Deep Winter, Cool Winter or Bright Winter, and each wears these shades a little differently.

Summer: cool and soft
Summers are cool like Winters, but gentler and lower in contrast. Swap black for charcoal or navy, burgundy for a muted plum, and chocolate for cool cocoa or taupe. Ash greys are a natural trend color for a Summer. Bottle green can feel heavy, so try sage or a muted sea green instead.

Autumn: warm and earthy
This winter belongs to Autumns. Chocolate brown, caramel, toffee, bottle and olive green and a warm wine burgundy are shades an Autumn wears near the face with ease. Just watch cold greys and pure black near your face: swap them for a brown-tinged charcoal, chocolate or navy.

Spring: warm, light and clear
Springs are warm like Autumns, but lighter and fresher. From this season’s colors, pick lighter caramel and camel, ivory and warm beige. Dark brown, burgundy and bottle green can overwhelm a Spring, so wear them away from the face and keep peach, coral or warm white close to it.

How to wear a trend color that isn’t “yours”
You don’t have to give up a color you love. Just move it to where it doesn’t reflect on your face.
- Wear it on the bottom: trousers, a skirt or boots in a trend color don’t affect your complexion
- Add your own color near your face: a scarf, roll-neck or shirt collar from your palette
- Choose an accessory: a bag, belt or gloves are the easiest way to wear a trend color
- Keep it to one accent: one piece in the season’s color, the rest in your own neutrals
